Devil’s Food Cake with a Twist

Chocolate is OK, but it’s not really my thing.  Too rich, too sweet, too in-your-face.  But I am always willing to make an exception, and this outrageous devil’s food cake from Cenk at Cafe Fernando stopped me in my web surfing tracks.

First of all, it’s gorgeous. Look at those chocolate shards!  You don’t even have to temper the chocolate, so that’s a cool thing right off the bat.

Second, the ganache filling inside the cake is made with an ingredient I’ve never heard of, but am so excited to try – Biscoff spread. It’s made from Biscoff cookies, which Cenk likens to gingersnaps. I imagine it tastes like Nutella, but gingery, not hazelnutty. Yum!

Have you ever tried Biscoff spread?  Could it possibly be as good as Nutella?
